Service · For DBE / ACDBE applicants

Personal Narrative Assessment

Get your DBE / ACDBE personal narrative reviewed against the USDOT IFR (49 C.F.R. § 26.67) before you submit. We flag every gap, every causation break, and every compliance risk a certifying reviewer will catch, then tell you exactly how to fix them.

Why this matters

The personal narrative is where most DBE applications win or lose

Certifying agencies don't just read your narrative, they grade it against six specific IFR elements. A narrative that lists hardships without establishing causation, ongoing impact, and material competitive disadvantage gets denied or returned for revisions every time.

Most applicants don't know what reviewers are looking for. We do, because we read them every day.

What we assess

The six IFR elements every reviewer scores

ElementWhat a compliant narrative must demonstrate

B. EducationHow educational disadvantage (if applicable) impaired advancement relative to similarly situated peers.
C. EmploymentHow employment disadvantage impaired professional advancement, documented with specific employers, dates, and outcomes.
D. Business history & economic disadvantageBusiness formation, lack of access to capital, and how these conditions materially impaired your ability to compete.
E. Ongoing disadvantagePresent-tense, current impact on competitive ability, not merely historical hardship.
F. Tone & structureFactual, professional, individualized, and free of conclusory or group-based claims.

FAQ

Common questions

What format does my narrative need to be in to submit it?

Word, Google Doc, or PDF, all work. You'll upload it during booking. Drafts in any state of completion are welcome.

Do you only review DBE / ACDBE narratives?

Our IFR-anchored review is built specifically for federal DBE / ACDBE applications. We also offer narrative reviews for state and council-based programs (M/WBE, NMSDC, WBENC, etc.), just note your target program when booking.

How long does the review take?

Up to 5 business days from the moment we have your narrative and any context we requested at intake. Most reviews are completed faster.

What if I disagree with a finding?

Reach out and we'll discuss it. We'll explain our reasoning, share the specific IFR language we anchored to, and adjust the report if we missed context.

Will the assessment guarantee my certification approval?

No reputable reviewer guarantees an agency's decision. What we guarantee is that your narrative will be substantially stronger and substantially more IFR-compliant after our review than before it.

Can my consultant or attorney use this report?

Absolutely. The PDF is yours to share with your team, accountant, attorney, or grant writer.

Don't submit a narrative you're not sure about

One review, one report, a clear path to a stronger application.
